Eucalyptus Essential oil, Pure and Natural

Botanical Name: Eucalyptus globulus var. globulus


General description of Eucalyptus:
There are more than 700 species of eucalyptus, of which about 500 are harvested for their essential oils. A beautiful, tall, evergreen tree, up to 90 metres (295ft) high. The young trees have bluish-green oval leaves while the mature trees develop long, narrow, yellowish leaves, creamy- white flowers and a smooth, pale grey bark often covered in a white powder.


Extraction of Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the freshly or partially dried leaves and young twigs.


Description of Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
A colourless mobile liquid (yellows on ageing), with a somewhat harsh camphoraceous odour and woody -sweet undertone. It blends well with thyme, rosemary, lavender, marjoram, pine, cedarwood, peppermint sandalwood and lemon.


Main therapeutic properties of Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
Analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-neuralgic, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic, astringent, anti-viral, decongestant, deodorant, diuretic, expectorant, febrifuge.


Uses of Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
Skin care: Burns, blisters, cuts, herpes, insect bites, insect repellent, lice, skin infections and wounds.
Circulatory system: muscles, and joints: Muscular aches and pains, poor circulation, rheumatoid arthritis, sprains etc.
Respiratory system: Asthma, bronchitis, catarrhal conditions, coughs, throat infections and sinusitis.
Genito-urinary system: Cystitis, leucorrhoea.
Immune system: Chickenpox, Colds, epidemics, measles, 'flu.
Nervous system: Debility, headaches, and neuralgia.
Eucalyptus oil and cineol are largely employed in the preparation of liniments, inhalants, cough syrups, ointments, toothpaste and as pharmaceutical flavourings also used in veterinary practice and dentistry. It is used as a fragrance component, mainly in soaps, detergents and toiletries - little used in perfumes. The oil is used for the isolation of cineol and employed as a flavour ingredient in most major food categories.


Effects of Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
Eucalyptus oil is piercing, stimulating, purifying. It is a tonic of the subtle energy, especially of the lungs, and helps those who feel constricted in their lives. Eucalyptus also makes a good psychic cleaner in a burner to cleanse rooms of negative energy.


Safety warnings for Eucalyptus Essential Oil:
Apply in dilution only; in concentration, it can irritate the skin. The oil should not be used on young children. When taken internally it is toxic. Externally non-toxic and relatively non-irritant, non - sensitizing. "When taken internally eucalyptus oil is toxic and as little as 3.5 ml has been reported as fatal." Always take caution when applying to sensitive skin, and always test for an allergic reaction before use. Avoid use if you have high blood pressure or epilepsy. For external use only.
